Composites, Robotics, Materials Science
Train for advanced manufacturing careers! Engineering Technology is the new name for the powerhouse department combining training in composites manufacturing and robotics. Classes introduce students to materials science, composite materials, engineering design, and robotics and electronics technology. Gain experience in hands-on state of the art labs. There are several 3D printers and equipment to test, construct, design, and build small and large items. Composites projects have included windmills, a kayak, and a wind tunnel. A robotics project includes a robot that has a completely hands-free remote control device.
Industries that use composites and robotics include: aerospace, maritime, medical device, and consumer goods manufacturing. Composites are also used in modern wind energy structures.
Completion rates for these programs are more than 60 percent with employment rates between 63 and 89 percent in positions earning between $25,500 and $45,000 annually, according to www.careerbridge.wa.gov.
