2005-06 Grants

The Edmonds Community College Foundation works with the college to help provide the highest quality education possible. Each year, the Foundation awards grants to faculty and staff that allow them to enhance and improve Edmonds Community College programs and projects. The funds for 2005-06 academic year were awarded to the proposals below.

Adult Basic Education/GED Field Trips
Three field trips to support the educational program for ABE/GED students - many have never attended the cultural and/or scientific offerings of the community.

AMATYC Student Math League Exam - 3rd year funding
Administering the Student Mathematics League exam twice and providing prizes and refreshments for students.

AmeriCorps Program Support
Providing summer administrative support, training, and refreshments in support of AmeriCorps programs.

Convergence Writers Series/Interviews with CWS Writers
This project allows several writers to visit classes on campus and give readings of their work.

Democracy in Action - Field trip to Washington State Capital
High School Completion students will tour the state Capitol, Supreme Court and lunch with state legislators.

EDCAP & High School Completion Recognition Ceremony -3rd year funding
Ceremony prior to the formal college graduation to honor graduates and their families.

High School Field Trips
Invite local high school students to visit the Culinary Arts program, tour the campus and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Integrating Arts and Science
Provides stipends for non-science teachers to attend the training that is part of the Sprite Grant (college faculty only).

Lab Instruction for Flight to Future
Hiring a lab teacher to work with children while parent instructors work with family participants - an expansion of Parent Education Program to underserved families and under-represented communities. A Boeing grant supplements the lab instruction for the parent education component.

Learning Support Center - 3rd year funding
Providing students with supplementary academic assistance across the curriculum, as well as helping with personal statements needed to transfer.

Library Collection Assessment
Subscribe to OCLC's World Catalog Collection Analysis, enabling the library to assess its collection's strengths and gaps, giving the library the tools it needs to acquire resources that best support students' needs and that support academic programs.

Memorial Garden - 3rd year funding Grass-roots community driven project to create a small Memorial Garden on the campus.

Multicultural Leadership Development
Quarter-long series of multi-cultural leadership development training for student leaders. Funds an instructor stipend.

NAEYC Accreditation for CFF
Purchase self-study materials to begin accreditation process from the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

New Student Orientation
Start up project designed to create enticing and dynamic orientation sessions to increase student success and retention.

Six Burner Gas Stove with Full Oven
To replace gas ranges and ovens in the Culinary Arts Department.

Statewide Community College Women's Conference
Co-Sponsorship for the keynote speaker for a statewide conference for women to discuss leadership and feminist principles.

Success Series Workshop - Food Allocation
Purchase food to attract more students to the success series workshops.

Support for Outreach to Organizations
Create opportunities for Edmonds Community College to co-sponsor or support events and activities sponsored by historically marginalized communities.

Teaching and Learning Institutes/Workshop Support
Eight Teaching and Learning Institutes/Workshops during the year to improve course design, accomplish pedagogical objectives and practice Blackboard Learning Management System tools with faculty.

Trio Students Support Services Program
Increase retention and graduation rates for low income and first-generation students showing institutional and Foundation support of the federal grant by the same name. The funding will be used to purchase two computers for new positions and for marketing.

WSRU Basic Skills Lab Upgrade
Support the student learning process in the ABE/GED Program at MCC-WSRU Basic Skills Lab by upgrading PC hardware and software.

Year-End Appreciation Dinner for Vocational Advisory Committees
Industry members from the college's 19 vocational advisory committees are invited to celebrate their accomplishments. One committee will be awarded "Advisory Committee of the Year".
