Solidarity With the Black Community

April 20, 2021

Dear Tritons,

I offer my heartfelt sentiments to the family of George Floyd. Today, ex-officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts of murder in the killing of George Floyd. His family has stood with strength, commitment, and courage throughout this unspeakable tragedy. The Black community and their allies have used their voices, protested, and pushed against systemic racism, anti-Blackness, and police brutality.

Justice was upheld today, and this moment is resounding across the nation and world. Let us pause for a moment, and take a deep breath today knowing that justice has been served. As a college community, we recognize the current and historical significance of this verdict, and we must continue to stand in solidarity with the Black community as we fight against systemic racism and injustice.

Sincerely,

Amit B. Singh, PhD
